The mobile food truck phenomenon is sweeping the nation. Bringing culinary diversity, mobile food trucks cultivate urban engagement and drive development. Always on the cutting edge, the City of Dayton moved swiftly to revise antiquated codes and regulations to encourage growth in this burgeoning economic movement.

City of Dayton:
Mobile Food Truck Regulations

Department of Public Health Mobile Food Service Operation Permit Information:

  • Applications may be obtained for the City and Montgomery County through Michael Buchannan at (937) 225-5915.

Courthouse Square Vendor Applications:

  • Applications may be obtained through Montgomery County. Please contact Wanda Willis at (937) 477-5268.

Department of Public Works Information and Requirements:

In 2013, the City created two downtown mobile food truck zones. The following regulations apply to the zones:
  • Cost: $80
  • Applications and Permits can be obtained at the Division of Civil Engineering at 101 W. Third Street, 5th Floor
  • Applicant must submit the following at time of application:
    • Name, address, and phone numbers for the business and owners
    • Tax Identification Number of the applicant
    • State of Ohio Transient Vendor's License 
    • Description of the food truck
    • Sample menu
    • Permit from appropriate county combined health district as a mobile food service operation
    • Proof of liability insurance, not less that $1,000,000, naming the City of Dayton as an additional insured
