Zoning & Permits

The City of Dayton’s Zoning Administration plays an important role in the physical development of our community.  The primary goal of the Zoning Administration is to ensure that Dayton is a safe and desirable place to live, work and visit. We strive to make your business development experience an efficient and stress-free process.

Our information and advice will help you understand and comply with City regulations affecting land use, development and building remodeling activities.

We invite you to investigate our policies before any project you undertake and contact the City of Dayton’s Zoning Administration office at 937-333-3887 for more information and advice.

Permits & Licensing:

  • The City of Dayton's Department of Building Services has all of the information on permits and licensing you need in one place.
  • The City of Dayton does not require any special license to conduct business in Dayton.
  • Depending on the nature of your business, the State of Ohio or Montgomery County may require special permits and/or a vendor’s license for your company.
  • The City of Dayton does require a Certificate of Use and Occupancy (CUO) for occupied buildings. For more information about getting a CUO in your company’s name, please contact the City of Dayton Building Services Division at (937) 333-3871.
